Paraphrasing

Q.9 Write short note on paraphrasing.
Ans. The word paraphrase is derives’s from a Greek source, meaning parallel wording. The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines Paraphrase as a statement that expresses something that somebody has written or said using different words, especially in order to make it easier to understand. It means that in paraphrasing changes are made only in words but the sense remains unchanged.
Uses of Paraphrasing : Paraphrasing has the following uses :
1. Regular practice of paraphrasing may help the students to inculcate the ability of intelligent reading.
2. The students learn the art of concentration.
3. Next, a regular practice can train them in the art of lucid expression.
4. The learners learn how to explain the ideas which the passage contains.
5. Besides, it gives them good practice.
6. It helps the learners to learn more and more new words and use them wherever necessary.
Methods of Paraphrasing :
1. Read the passage carefully and grasp its meaning.
2. Note down its brief summary.
3. Read the passage again to know about the difficult words, uncommon expressions and grammatical constructions.
4. Arrange the sentence one after another. Write short sentences and also use simple words.
5. Paraphrasing should be done in the indirect speech where, in necessary, only once write down, The poet says that .......................
6. The paraphrase must be kept in the same tense as the extract.

Paraphrase
Human being remain dejected and gloomy. They do not enjoy their present life just because they think of the past agonies and miseries and also remain  anxious of their uncertain future. They are not satisfied with their achievements. They aspire for what they are not able to achieve. Even their laughter seems filled with pain. It is true that our sweetest songs are those that are full of melancholic thoughts.
