Chapters essays and other prose compositions are broken up into paragraphs to make the reading of them easier, for the beginning of a new paragraph makes a change of topic, or a step in the development of an argument or of a story. Definition: -
A paragraph has been defined as the largest single unit of an essay (the syllabus uses the word composition). In each paragraph there is one main idea and the sentences in the paragraph are woven around it. Remember that each paragraph is a vital part of the whole composition and is closely linked to the paragraphs which have gone before and those which will follow. It may be said that a paragraph is a distinct unit of thought. It consists of a group of related sentences forming an integral part of the composition which is being written.
