Or. Write short note on Training as a tool of personality development.
Ans. Personality has been regarded as a practical force in determining success or failure in life. The importance of personality increases as social life becomes more complex; A pleasing personality has a “ marketable value” in a complex society and highly prized and sought after. The young child is unaware of the social value of personality but the older child and adolescent are extremely personality conscious and highly motivated to improve them selves. A person becomes self-rejecting. When he is unable to gratify his needs and desires because of personal limitations or obstacles in his environment. People with healthy personalities are those who are judged to be well adjusted. They are so judged because they are able to function efficiently in the world of people. Realistic self-appraisals, realistic appraisal of situations, realistic evaluation of achievements, acceptance of responsibility are the characteristics of healthy personalities. A healthy mind is normally found in a healthy body and so is healthy frame of reference of outlook on life self-acceptance, self under standing realistic expectations helps in building a healthy personality. The more popular a person is the more reason he has to be satisfied with himself and in turn to be happy.
The essence of economics development is growth of output or real income per head of the population. Economic growth means increase in per capita income of the country as constant prices. A higher per capita income could mean that people are level of living of the people is main objective economic development. But the increase in national income or per capita income must be maintained for along time. Economic development also brings in his wake important social, institutional and organizational changes. A rise in national and per capita income is implicit in economic growth. The improvement in income result in large saving increased capital function and technological development. Rise in the per capital availability of  capital resources improvement in the skill, efficiency and earning power of labour, better organization of production, development of means of transport and communications, growth of financial institution, organization, rise in standards of health and education and expectation of life greater leisure and  increased recreation facilities and widening of the mental horizons of the people all these characterize economic growth. This is in nutshell, what, economic development means economic development is an over all increase in the quantitative as well as qualitative aspects.

Q.11. Underline the role of learning in the personality development of employees in an organisation.       (2007-08)
Ans. Personality is an important determinant of employee behaviour. If an employee likes monotonous or boring work, if he steadfastly refuses additional responsibilities in the form of promotion, if a supervisor fails to reprimand an unruly subordinate or if a middle level manager tries to climb up the ladder to reach the top of an organization callously ignoring ethical considerations, the explanation for such behaviour in each case depends on the individual personality, which predisposes an individual to certain behavioural patterns. A thoughtful application of personality concepts helps us to understand unique beings and groups with singular personality characteristics.
Personality is the focal point determining motivation considers the following quote. It is impossible to give a full and comprehensive account of expectative behaviour without raising question of why they behave as they do “ for example, why do effective executives spend so much time on personal matters? Why do not they commentate their effort on production? When we ask such question regarding executive behaviour, we are trying to explore questions of motivation. Motivation is concerned with the study of the direction and persistence of action. Personality is the organising center around which people’s motives from a unified and integrated system.
Personality characteristics influence selection of individuals to occupy various positions in an organisation. In this connections psychologists have devised a series at tests e.g. the California test of personality, Rorschach ink bolt test, Thematic Apperception Test etc. which help selection of right individuals for the right jobs. The concept of personality is not be understood in an organizational context only. The need for understanding unman characteristics, in generally, is more significant than comprehending personality in the context of organisations.

Q.12. Write short note on the Operative Vs Managerial functions of management.       (2007-08)
Ans. (a) A role consists of the behaviour patterns expected of a manager within an organisation or a unit Henry Mintzberg conducted a comprehensive study of the nature of managerial roles in 1973. a summary of Mintzberg’s findings gives us a complete picture of what of what a manager actually does. Based on his study of the activies by practicing chief executives, Mintrberg generalized his description of the nature of managerial work in actual practice. He identified ten basic roles performed by managers and classified them under three heads and 
(i) Interpersonal.
(ii) Informational and 
(iii) Decisional.
Mintrberg roles approach is based on actual observations of work done by managers. Thus, it describes what manager’s do and provides important insights into the problems and issues involved in managing. The functional approach framework for analyzing the job of a manager. It prescribes “ what, managers should do”. The roles and functional approaches are two sides of the same coin.
